Local solicitor Robert Taylor was initiated as president of Drogheda Rotary Club by Karl Allen the outgoing president at the Club’s weekly Monday lunch in the Westcourt Hotel.
Robert is maintaining the family traditions of the Taylor family. His father Brian Taylor and his grandfather Robert (Bertie) Taylor both gave outstanding service to the people of Drogheda as members and presidents of the Drogheda Rotary Club. Brian Taylor was president of the Club in 1974 and Bertie Taylor was president in 1968. Also, Robert has followed his antecedents into the family law practice.
In his inauguration address to the Drogheda Rotary Club Robert thanked Karl Allen for all his hard work in the last year. He said that he welcomes the role of President as a challenge. Indeed, he relishes the task of maintaining and developing the Club’s projects in the coming year. Last year the club distributed a total of €41,000 to local charities. Although this was an exceptional amount for any one year he hopes the club will continue its success with Meals On Wheels, the Rotary Golf Classic and the Memorial Tree.
Karl Allen in his valedictory said he had enjoyed his year as President of the Drogheda Rotary Club and thanked all the membership for their support in a very successful year for the Club. The club would continue to succeed and he would give Robert Taylor any help or advise he may need. Sadly the passing of Ger DeLoughrey was a painful shock for the club but Ger will be remembered affectionally by all who knew him.
Marie Mullooly Assistant District Governor congratulated Robert on his new role and looks forward to woking with Robert and Drogheda Rotary Club next year.
Drogheda Rotary Club welcomes new members to the club. The Club is actively seeking new colleagues to continue with its long history contributing to the community and social responsibility of Drogheda.
