Drogheda Rotary Club are delighted to announce that their annual Remembrance Tree Appeal raised €6,800 for their on street collection in the week running up to Christmas. All the funds will go to help local charities.
Karl Allen President of the Drogheda Rotary Club said “we are thrilled with the support from all the people in and around Drogheda especially during these very challenging times”.
The Remembrance Tree Appeal has been a regular sight in Drogheda over the past 14 years and has now raised over €166,000 for local charities.
“We were very grateful to the continued support and participation of the Drogheda Soroptimist Club without whom we could not have run such a successful project” said Julian Grant Club secretary.
Again this year the principal organiser of the event was Paddy Prendergast and the club wishes to acknowledge his enormous contribution to the success of the fundraiser.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the Remembrance Tree Appeal could only operate at one location in West Street, Drogheda instead of our usual three sites. Also because of the regulations, the completion and placement of cards on the tree was unfortunately not allowed.
A new “Go Fund Me page” was set up this year and was a very successful additional source of donations. This new feature enabled “virtual” contributions and will be be used again in the future.
Club members were very much encouraged by the support and understanding of the people of Drogheda when they said they appreciated Drogheda Rotary Club’s efforts in keeping the project alive in these extraordinary times.
The Rotary Club of Drogheda was established in 1946 and meets regularly.
